WYNDHAM SHOW

ANNUAL MEETING OF SOCIETY AMENDED CONSTITUTION By the adoption at its annual meeting last evening of an amended constitution and set of rules, the Wyndham A. and P. Society changed its name to The Wyndham Agricultural and Pastoral Society (Inc.). The meeting, which was held in the Murihiku Hall, Wyndham, was the biggest for some years, being attended by approximately 40 members, over whom the retiring president, Mr John Craig, presided. The new constitution fixed the annual subscription at £l, that for persons under 20 being 7/6. The fee for life membership was £lO, and the appointment of honorary life members was at the discretion of the society. The executive was to comprise 21 members, one third of whom should retire annually, and it would have the power to appoint district representatives if thought necessary. The appointment of the president and two vice-presidents would be made by the’ executive from its own members. . The complete draft was adopted without discussion. Last Year’s Show. The annual report stated that although fine weather favoured the society’s 55th annual show, held on December 7, 1934, there was a slight falling off in the takings at the gate. That could be accounted for by the adverse weather conditions experienced before the show, which had prevented farmers from having their outdoor work right up to date. “While the total entries were down,” continued the report, it is pleasing to be able to report that the quality, for which this district is so noted, was up to or even above previous years. The debit balance is further decreased, which satisfactory. This year’s reduction would have been bigger had it not been necessary to erect a new building. The grounds and buildings are in good order, and there should be no great expense needed during the coming year.” A gala day was held during the year, the report stated, but although the gate takings were up to those of the previous year, the expenses were heavier, the number of events was increased, and the number of entries showed a decrease. It was recommended that if another meeting were held, it should be in an entirely different form. “A successful horse parade was held on the grounds and a good number of entries was received, comparing more than favourably with any other fixture of the sort in Southland,” it continued. “It has been suggested and your committee supports the idea, that a sale of mares and also a general horse sale be held in conjunction with the parade. This would help the farmers and horse owners to make a more profitable trip and should encourage entries.” In the financial statement, the show account disclosed a balance to the general account of £42 6/7. A debit balance of £582 16/5 was shown in the general account, this being an improvement of £l6 on the debit balance at July 1, 1934. The balance-sheet showed outstanding accounts, £231 9/-; current accounts, £94 12/6; and. an excess of assets over liabilities of £1433 19/9. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without comment. Office-bearers. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Executive, Messrs T. Dobbie, P. Campbell, A. M. Weir, R.
