TENNIS CLUB BALL. (From Our Correspondent.) The Brydone Hall was the scene of a happy function on Tuesday c Y‘ n_ ing when the Ota Creek Tennis Uub held a most successful dance. fne hall had been tastefully decorated with greenery and coloured streameis and patrons were rewarded with a gay scene on entering. The statue ,~ance was won by Miss W. Byers and Mr b. Kirker, while the prize for the Monte Carlo waltz was annexed by Miss Q. Spencer and Mr Dodds. A lucky number competition for which the prize was an iced cake donated by .Miss Townley was won by Mr W. Mair, of Gore. The Star Orchestra provided the latest in dance music and the floor was ably controlled by Messrs H. Mawdsley and E. Gibson, Miss Smythe playing the extras. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs Byers, Mr and Mrs Townley, Mr and Mrs Dillon, Mr and Mrs G. Baynes, Mr and Mrs Duff, Mr and Mrs Mitchell, Mr and Mrs Lambie; Mesdames W. Randall; Messrs Baynes, Parker, McDonald (2), Townly, Dillon (2), Gibson (2), Mawdsley, Thomson, Frame, Ford, Flack, Ladbrook, Kirker, Wilson, Baty, Dodds (2), Dunlop, McGowan, Leitch, Kirk, Cross (2), Stuart, Mosley, Byers, McKinnon, Hay, Murphy (3), Allison, McDowall (2), Coker, Bagrie, Smithwaite, Findley, Mitchell, Genge, Lee, Baulay. “Bits and Pieces.” The “Bits and Pieces” revue concluded its two nights’ season on Thursday when another capacity house was recorded and the performance went with that swing which characterized the opening night’s show, the various principals acquitting themselves in a most creditable manner. At the conclusion the company were the guests of the members of the school committee and their wives at a social hour, when Mr William Buchanan (chaii — man) congratulated them .on their excellent programme; especially eulogizing the work of Mr Bringans and Miss Aitken. He thanked them for their help to the committee’s special funds and trusted that the company would be greeted with packed houses at future performances. Mr S. Bringans (producer) briefly acknowledged the sentiments expressed. Bowling Club. The annual report of the Mataura Bowling Club states:— Your committee have pleasure in presenting its annual report and bal-ance-sheet for the past season and expresses pleasure at the interest displayed by members in club activities. The season was a most successful one for your club, all local fixtures being keenly contested. For the handicap doubles Mr Thorn and Mrs I. Cullen proved the winners with Messrs Calder and Downard as runners-up. For the handicap singles Mr W. C. Paterson had a narrow victory from Mr J. H. Clark, who being a young player put up a very creditable performance. Mr J. Calder had a close victory from Mr William Buchanan in the champion singles, this competition being productive of many keen games. AL fixtures in the Eastern District competition were fulfilled by your club, which was successful in winning the cup— for the first time. In the Eastern District championships Mr J. Calder won the singles and Messrs W. Buchanan and W. Paterson were runners-up in the pairs, and to these players congratulations are extended- During the season the green was in excellent order, the condition being highly commented upon by visiting bowlers, and to Mr G. Gourley, green-keeper, and a few members who took an interest in its preparation thanks are extended. Messrs Terry and Paterson have trimmed the hedges and top-dressed the green since the closing of last season. General committee meetings were held during the season, all being well attended. A number of ladies joined the club during the year and enjoyed much play. To the ladies thanks are due for looking after the refreshments during local games. In conclusion your committee is pleased to state that the finances are in a much better position, with the membership the same as last year.
