MATAURA NEWS
HIGHLAND SOCIETY.
(From Our Correspondent.)
One of the most popular nights of the Mataura Highland Society’s programme has always been that arranged by the clanswomen, and it was not surprising therefore to find the Oddfellows’ Hall packed to capacity on Friday night when this popular function took place. Prior to the ladies taking charge, Chief A. N. Mac Gibbon announced that the recommendation from the executive was that the present officers should be re-nominated for their respective positions. In the absence of Mrs A. N. Mac Gibbon, the duties of chairwoman were undertaken by Mrs A. W. Halliday, and she announced that the evening would be devoted to dancing and a musical programme, those contributing being Miss Gwenneth Bradshaw (Invercargill), fancy dances; Miss Leabody (Hedgehope) songs; Miss M. Halliday and Masters Wilson and Halliday (dialogue “The Ghost Story”); Misses Bradshaw and Halliday (duet); a lucky spot and a Monte Carlo waltz were won by Miss Scott and Mr Richmond and Miss Henry and Mr B. Mac Gibbon respectively. At a suitable interval a delectable supper was served and it is worthy of mention that the hall had been transformed by the artistic decorations of Bowers and greenery arranged by the ladies.
