The new stables erected by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Gore, were officially opened on Saturday afternoon when the monthly horse sale conducted by the firm was held. There was a large attendance of buyers and spectators present, and the opportunity was taken while the sale was in progress to inspect the facilities offered to vendors and buyers in the way of accommodation. The auction of 25 light and heavy horses was marked by satisfactory competition from the commencement. Good young draughts brought up to £56. Hack and harness horses were slow of sale. Inferior and faulty wool was irregular and withdrawals were numerous. New Zealand scoured Merinos, “Glenlyon,” top price 24d, average 22£d; greasy halfbred, “Takitu,” top price 14d, average 13|d.
