WAGES AND MANAGEMENT.

To the Editor.

Sir, —In your leader of Thursday morning you state in connection with Mr F. Jones, M.P., statement that a reduction of wages brought about unemployment. , “As a matter of fact, however, there is stronger evidence to suggest that both were brought about by the same set of conditions, in other words, that the cutting of wages was necessary by those economic conditions which brought about unemployment and that the only relations these things have is that they spring from the same cause. If wages had not been reduced then unemployment would have been greater.” Will you please state what evidence there is to suggest, etc., etc., and upon what grounds you base the assumption that had wages not been reduced unemployment would have been greater. Will you prove that under the Labour Party’s monetary policy, inflation will take place and the actual value of wages will fall? Will you quote authcrities to, prove your contention that the farmers position to-day is much better than it was four years ago? When we get something concrete and not a series of half-truths cleverly connected into a leading article calculated to mislead anyone reading it through in a hurry, I shall have no difficulty in proving to your readers that Mr Jones, M.P., knows what he is talking about when he attacks the Government, whose policy you endeavour to defend to the best of your ability.—l am, etc. y P. MARCHANT.
