Even for Auckland, the present winter has been one of exceptional mildness as far as the effect upon the foliage of deciduous trees is concerned, (states the New Zealand Herald). The fine specimens of Portuguese oaks in the small park at the corner of Manukau and Ranfurly Roads, Epsom, are bearing an abundance of leaves, many of them untouched by autumn tints. Near Albert Park some young poplars have not lost leaves on the uppermost branches. In parks and reserves throughout Auckland there are many signs of early budding on both imported and native trees, giving the expectation of an early spring. In many orchards apple trees have not yet entirely lost last season’s leaves.
