HOUSE STRUCK
DRUNKEN MOTORIST I CAR CRASHES THROUGH FENCE FINE OF £lO (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, June 17. As a sequel to an accident in Scotland street on Saturday night, a milk roundsman, Albert Arthur Smith, aged 36, appeared in the Police Court before Mr R. McKean, S.M., on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. Sub-Inspector Fox said the car was travelling at a moderate speed, but when Scotland street was reached it continued straight across the street instead of turning. The car went right through a picket fence arjd struck the front of a house, added the sub-in-spector. . The wall of the house and some of the furniture was damaged. Fortunately, the members of the family in the house were at the rear of the dwelling. Accused and a companion were found by the police to be slightly injured, and when medically examined by doctors the two men were found to be in a state of intoxication. Accused was drunk and not in a proper condition to be driving a motor car, said the Magistrate in imposing a fine of £lO, in default a month’s imprisonment with costs £2 9/6.
