WOMEN’S DIVISION
OTAUTAU BRANCH. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Otaulau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the supper room of the Town Hall on Friday, when Mrs Smellie (president) presided over a good attendance, and welcomed two new members, Mesdames A. A. Officer and McDonald, both of Isla Bank. An invitation to attend the Wrights Bush third birthday celebrations, was received. The ball and birthday celebrations of the Otautau branch were discussed, and it was decided that the committee finalize arrangements. The competition, “Best made article for relief,” was won by Mrs Mcßeath, Miss J. Collie being second and Mrs Clothier third, while Mrs McLeod won the best bloom for the month, Mrs Patterson being second and Mrs Smellie third. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames Patterson, Coster and McCully, after which Mrs G. James gave a recitation, which was appreciated by all. The roll call with “Beauty Hints brought forth some very good ideas. OTATARA BRANCH. The Otatara branch of the W.D.F.U. held, its monthly meeting on June 15, there being a good attendance of members and visitors. The competition, “Something new from something bld” resulted: Mrs Morris 1, Mrs Tuflery 2, Mrs Robinson 3. The best bloom .competition for the month was won by Miss Rae. The two girls chosen to represent the branch at the Girls’ Education Week were present and gave full reports of their activities. After the meeting a social hour was spent, progressive euchre being played. Miss O’Connor and Mr Blee were the successful players. After supper three little girls contributed a song and items were also given by Mrs Robinson, Miss Treloar and Messrs Morris and Marshall. Evan Robinson, a little boy only four years old, gave two recitations and community singing brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
