Mr and Mrs P. H. Maclean, Waimumu, left last week to spend an extended holiday at Hamner and in the North Island.
Miss Diana Green, Joseph street, left by Saturday morning’s express on a holiday visit to Wellington. Mrs Dickie, Dunedin, is at present the guest of her sister, Mrs J. J. Reynolds, Ardwick street.
Miss Mavis Anderson, Canning street, has returned from a fortnight’s holiday at Dunedin. Miss Joyce Harvey, Halton street, East Gore, entertained a number of friends at afternoon tea on Monday of last 'week. There were seven tables at play at the meeting of the bridge circle of the Women’s Club on Monday evening of last week. The highest score for contract was won by Mrs J. M. Boyne, and the concealed number by Mrs R. W. McCreath. The auction highest score was won by Mrs W. L. Milne and the concealed number by Mrs M. M. Simpson.
Miss Olive Shea, whose marriage takes place this week, was entertained by a large number of friends at a gift evening in the Cosy Lounge on Monday of last week. A happy time was spent with music and dancing and after supper the, numerous parcels were opened by the guest of honour. On behalf of those present Mr 'Z. D. Shelton expressed best' wishes for Miss Shea’s future happiness and prosperity. . A wedding of local interest took place at Mosgiel yesterday afternoon when Miss Margarita Jopp was married to Mr Andrew McFarlane, of Oamaru. Miss Heather Robertson; Dimedin, visited Gore during the week. At the meeting of the play reading circle of the Women’s Club on Monday afternoon a three-act comedy, “Flat to Let,” by Arthur Macrea, was read with the following cast: “Mrs Coney,” Mrs J. M. Boyne; “Carol,” Miss Rita Hill; “Lord Jara, Mrs J. W. Turnbull; “Alan,” Mrs D. M. McLeod; “Tony,” Mrs R. I. Rutherford; “Susan,” Mrs D. Harvey; “Minna,” Mrs R. G. Stokes; chorus, Mrs H. C. Mac Gibbon. Blue and white streamers and multicoloured lights decorated the Theatre Royal for the dance arranged by the Gore Men’s Hockey Club in honour of the visiting Indian hockey team last Wednesday evening. Music was provided by the Troubadours’ dance band, and extras were played by Mr B. Ferguson. Messrs S. Wilson, E. Brown and L. Barron were the M.C’s. Among those present were Mr A. T.
