ANNUAL CONFERENCE

ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY. REMITS TO BE CONSIDERED. The annual meeting and conference of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand is to be held at Wellington on June 25. The conference will be opened with an address by Mr Justice Frazer, deputy-chairman of the Executive Commission of Agriculture. The following remits are to be considered: — . “That any affiliated society, having cause to disqualify any person or entry, should advise the Royal Agricultural Society of such disqualification and its executive to have power to increase or decrease such disqualification, and all affiliated societies to be notified.” (Hawkes Bay A. and P. Societ “TTrat the attention of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand be drawn to “synthetic” wool and artificial fibres used as substitutes for wool and they be asked to take steps, jf possible, to assist manufacturers in combating the same, possibly by advertising the value of real wool. Association). “That the Government be requested to amend the Stock Remedies Act (1934) to provide (1) for representation of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand or the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on the Stock Remedies Registration Board; (2) that in the case of mineral licks the purchaser be provided with a certificate showing not only the analysis of the lick, but the names of the ingredients and the proportion of each.” (Feilding I. Association.) “That this association urge A. and P. associations to restrict entries for fat cattle classes for chillers to beasts sired by a purebred registered beef bull.” (New Zealand Aberdeen Angus C.B. Association.) “That it is essential in the interest of uniformity and co-ordination _ among the various societies that the licensing of side-show proprietors be undertaken by the central body. In order to debar undesirables from gaining admission to showgrounds, the production of some general form of license is required. Local control having proved a failure, it has become necessary to ask that the Central Governing Body of the Police Department should take the matter up.” (Gore A. and P. Association. “That this conference urges upon all A. and P. associations conducting ram fairs, that entries to such fairs be restricted to rams bred in flocks registered in a recognized Flock Book.” (New Zealand Sheenbreeders’ Association.) “That the Royal Agricultural Society urge the importance of fudging sheep in rings, where practicable, in order to have a uniform system adopted throughout the country.” (Ryeland Sheen Societv of New Zealand.) “That the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand urge the adoption of the practice of the wearing of white coats bv the exhibitors of sheep at the Royal Shows.” (Ryeland Sheep Society of New Zealand.) “That this conference is strongly opposed to the lifting of the embargo on the importation of live stock from Great Britain.” (Flaxbourne A. and P. Association.) “That the attention of the A. and P. associations be drawn to the excessively fat condition of some of the stock—especially stud stock—shown at Dominion exhibitions, and that the showing of stock in such condition be not encouraged.” (Flaxbourne A. and P. Association.) “That the Government be urged to bring down legislation providing for the control of the sale of stock foods; and, in particular, providing that the purchaser shall receive with the invoice a certificate setting forth the names of the several ingredients and the proportions of each.” (New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association.) “That all cases of sheep stealing be an indictable offence under the Crimes Act, 1908.” (Hawkes Bay A. and P. Society.) “That the Government take further steps to procure a parasite to eradicate the diamond back moth.” (Hawkes Bay A. and P. Society.) “That it be a recommendation from this conference to the council that the selection of judges for the Royal Show be completed not later than June 30 each year and that immediately the selection is made a complete list be sent out to each affiliated association.” i (Manawatu and W.C. (Council.) “That a committee be set up to consider and report on the general question of increasing the popularity of A. and P. shows.” (Council.) “This conference is of opinion that in dairy classes at A. and P. shows, no animal should be admitted unless it or it’s dam has an approved certificate of production; and that the matter be referred to all A. and P. associations and to the dairy breed societies for an expression of opinion.” (Council.)
