TALKIE PRODUCTION
SOUTHLAND ENTERPRISE. Considerable interest has been aroused in Invercargill now that it is definitely known that a New Zealand sound film production company *has made arrangements to take a full programme of high grade film featuring the scenic workers, industrial activity and extensive views of the city of Invercargill. In connection with this production a well-balanced story will run through the main feature, and will be played almost entirely by Southland talent. The high standard reached in amateur theatrical production in Invercargill and elsewhere throughout the province is recognized throughout the Dominion, and the producers of the film, the Television Film Company of Wellington, state that they consider themselves fortunate that this trained talent is available here. Mr Lee Hill, the chief cinematographer for Television Films, has been deeply impressed with what he has already seen of Southland’s country and magnificent scenery. In his 15 years’ experience on the staff of leading overseas film producers, Mr Hill considers that it has not been his good fortune to have discovered anything more suitable for the production of high class scenic features than what Southland offers.
Work is already in hand in connection with the cast for the proposed picture and very shortly Southland talent will have the opportunity to undergo auditions before the camera and microphone in Invercargill. Each person will be tested in private. In this connection the sound engineer and the remainder of the production unit and their recording equipment will arrive in Invercargill at an early date.
