DARING BURGLARY
INTRUDER TAKES RISK. A daring burglary was perpetrated on Thursday night on the premises of Mr A. W. Hazelwood, fruit and produce merchant, at the corner of Cumberland and High streets, Dunedin, reports the Evening Star. The intruder gained entry from the First Church ground, a pair of horse reins, about 35ft long, being found suspended from a bush at the top of the bank at the rear of the premises. He apparently let himself down with the assistance of the reins, taking considerable risk in view of the drop of 40ft from the top of the bank. A steel shutter was removed from a small window, which was then forced open, approximately £4 in money being stolen from the premises. The adjacent premises of the National Cash Register Company were also broken into, entry being made into a detached workshop. Nothing was taken, the intruder being _ unsuccessful in an attempt to break into the main building. A crowbar and a torch were found on the premises.
