COUNTY RATES

LEVIES FOR ENSUING YEAR. REDUCTION IN ONE RIDING. Rates for the ensuing year were struck at yesterday’s meeting of the Southland County Council. The only alteration in the amounts levied last year is that the rate for the Awarua riding has been reduced by one-eighth of a penny. The rates struck are as follows:— Waihopai Riding.—One penny and one-third of a penny in the £. Awarua Riding.—One penny and three-eighths of a penny in the £. Wallacetown Riding.—One penny and two-fifths of a penny in the £. Winton Riding.—One penny in the £. Oreti Riding.—One penny and oneeighth of a penny in'the £. Hokonui Riding.—One penny and three-twentieths of a penny in the £. Waikaia Riding.—One penny and nine-twentieths of a penny in the £. Mataura Riding.—One penny in the £.

Toetoes Riding.—One penny and one-half penny in the £. The Hospital and Charitable Aid rate was fixed at one-fifth of a penny in the £.

A timber rate of one-half penny per 100 ft board measure on standing trees cut in the country and converted from log into sawn timber was also struck.
