Two undergraduates, Miss Edith Shaw-Cross and Lady Katherine Cairns, a daughter of Earl Cairns, have been sent down from Oxford. because they allegedly communicated information to the Isis. The sensation is the sequel to a practical joke against Miss Julia Mann, principal of St. Katherine’s College, when she was locked in a room. Miss Mann demanded the names of the perpetrators. There were not forthcoming, so Miss Mann banned a ball, z Subsequently a paragraph was prepared for the Isis, proofs of which were submitted to Miss Mann, but it was not published. The paragraph referred to the joke and apologized to the guests invited to the ball. Miss Shaw-Cross, who was subeditress of the Isis, was first sent down, upon which Lady Katherine Cairns declared that she supplied the information. These are the first women undergraduates to be sent down.
