Some fabulous prices were placed by their owners upon cats on exhibition at the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon, Canary and Cat Club’s annual show. The £lO was common, half a dozen or so of'the animals had £5O placed alongside their entries, while one cat, apparently the tabby of all tabbies, was valued at £l5O. These prices, for the most part, were, of course, only nominal —they were the owners’ means of securing that their cats would not be sold, according to the Sun.
