BIRTHDAY PARTY. (From Our Correspondent) An enjoyable evening was spent in the Drill Hall recently when Mr and Mrs J. Pont entertained a number of friends and relatives to an evening in honour of the 21%t birthday of their only daughter Gretta. The evening was spent in games, competitions and dancing, music for the latter being supplied by Miss Tassie Goodwillie, while extras were played by Mrs L. A. Dutton and Mr D. Pearse. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr D. Wadsworth, while Mr H. Spear was chairman. The winners of the various competitions were: Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs G. Lapham; musical sticks, Mr R. McLeary (Invercargill); eating string, Master G. Cleaver 1, Miss Jessie Hart 2; statute dance, Mr H. Pont and Miss M. Mackie; lucky spot wait, Mr J. Dawson and Miss Jessie Hart. During the evening songs were contributed by Misses Mary Mackie and N. Daniels. At a suitable interval the chairman, Mr H. Spear, called upon Miss Pont to light the 21 candles on the beautiful cake, which was the gift of her aunt, Mrs A. McDonald (Invercargill). The chairman proposed the toast of the guest of honour, which was drunk with musical honours. Other toasts were Mr and Mrs J. Pont and Mr G. Pont, sen. (grandfather of Miss Pont). After the cutting of the cake, Mr H. Pont presented his sister with the customary “key of the door.” On behalf of the Basketball Club, of which Miss Pont is a member, Mrs J. R. Whittle, president of the Basketball Club, presented Miss Pont with a beautiful bouquet which had been made by Mrs A. Broomhall, a vice-president of the club. After supper dancing continued.
