REVIVED IN COFFIN
DIES FIFTY YEARS LATER. The death occurred at Romsey Institution recently of Miss Martha Southwell, aged 88, who 50 years ago was thought to be dead and was actually placed in a coffin. The coffin was being carried to the cemetery when a knocking was heard inside. The bearers were frightened and dropped the coffin and ran. .... The supposedly dead woman then stepped from the broken coffin and returned to the institution whei’e she resumed work in the laundry. She used the coffin lid as an ironing board. Miss Southwell was born at the institution and never slept away from it except when removed for smallpox.
