Archerfield School

OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION. The president and committee of the Archerfield Old Girls’ Association were “at home” at the Tudor Hall of the Savoy on Thursday evening, when a delightful ball was held (states the Otago Daily Times). The cosy lounge, arranged with vases of chrysanthemums and marigolds in the gold ana brown shades of the school colours was an animated scene while programmes were being filled. Miss Runa Dobbie, president of the Old Girls’ Association, received the guests, and presented them to Miss Black, principal. She wore white, satin with a high'front neckline ornamented with silver lame and diamante, the back falling into a cowl ana having loops of lame from the shoulders to the waist, and a plaited belt of lame and satin completing the effect, ana carried a scarlet bouquet, the gift of the association; Miss Black being in a smart frock of turquoise blue velvet with a gold line running diagonally through it, and a three-quarter-length black coatee. She carried a bouquet of pink. Dr. and Mrs Iverach were chaperones, the latter wearing a gown of black sand crepe with a green coatee. A feature of the ball was the large number of white-clad debutantes, who. after being presented by Miss Dobbie to Dr. and Mrs Iverach, and receiving from Miss Black a posy tide in brown and gold ribbon, danced an old-fash-ioned measure in the middle of the floor before joining their partners in a special dance. Previously they and their partners had been the guests of Miss Black at a dinner party in the Somerset Lounge, where golden candelabra, gold linen, and gold-tinted flowers had made a charming and appropriate setting in the Archerfield main colours. They were:—Misses Mary Dunlop in an old-world frock of net over a bouffant skirt of taffeta, with an off-the-shoulder neckline outlined by cloudy net, worn with a blue velvet hairband and a blue coatee; Muriel Easton in a close-fitting frock of lace flaring at the knees and a low back neckline outlined with a wide frill of net; Mary Felton (Cromwell) in a moulded frock of crepe threaded in silver, with ruching at the hem and round the edge of the low cowled neckline at the back; Joy Greig in crinkly silk, close-fitted,-and having ruching at'the neck and round the armholes, and a soft sash; Hilda Hislop in a fitting frock of sand crepe, with a tucked bodice, epaulette sleeves, and brilliants in the buckle and at the shoulders; Hilary Kidson in silk moire, with a silver diagonal thread, the skirt falling into fullness below the knees, and full bows completing the shoulders arid the sash; Nancy Overton (Winton) in georgette, with frills at the kneeline, rows of frills on the bodice, and pale pink velvet flowers completing the waistline at the back; Nance Pratt in a frock of chiffon over silk, with its off-the-shoulder neckline completed with a frill, narrow frills running perpendicularly from the knee to the hem, and a small sash; Nancy Stevenson in silver threaded tafetta flaring from the knee and finished with a sash and tiny outstanding epaulettes; and Helen Yule (Invercargill) in angelskin satin, with a halter neckline, a slit bodice at the back, and a slight train. The hall was arranged in the school colours, and had the school flag and crest in a prominent position.
