THE WHIPPETS

(By

“Oteramika.”)

Mr J. Winders advised the writer that he would be taking Mah Boy and Lady G to Christchurcn in August to compete for the valuable prizes which are on offer there during National week. As these representatives oi Danger G Kennels have already proved their worth on Canterbury’s chief convincing ground the trip should be well worth while. On their last visit about two months ago Mah Boy secured a cup and Lady G bolted home in her heat, only to receive a bad start in 'the final, which on top of the starts she was conceding, proved too big a handicap and she finished just out of a place. Gold Gleam, the winner of the last Puppy Stakes, continues to show good form and in the capable hands of Mr L. Maitland he promises to take high rank. Gay Song is also in the hands of the same mentor and he will probably be the representative from these kennels in the next Nursery, as Gold Gleam is likely to take on older whippets in the Extended Nursery Handicap. Bonnette will probably travel to Dunedin next month to compete for the Lloyd Cup in which race she was successful last year. The Lloyd Cup is one of the finest trophies on offer in New Zealand, and was presented to the Dunedin Club by Lloyd’s, through their New Zealand agents, Messrs Bennie S. Cohen and Sons. Mr J. R. Aitken has had some tempting offers from the north for Flying Shadow, and, now that Bonnette is back to form, he is considering letting tliis promising dog go. The Invercargill Club’s next meeting will be held on July 6, when a similar programme to last will be submitted. Miss G, the successful daughter of Danger G and Mahnette, is to be mated with King Pin who won a cup at the last meeting. King Pin is one of the best bred dogs in New Zealand, being by Glenrossie out of ladybird and is a litter brother to Blue Bird who is the highest priced stud dog in this Dominion.

Mr J. Burrowes reports from Southern Kennels that he has disposed of two dog pups ex Loretta by Boy G to a Wyndham enthusiast. He is retaining the bitch pup from the same litter. Rosetta and Loretta, who won three races between them at last meeting, are both in good condition. Tolan, the promising juvenile son of Fleet Pepper and Minoru, has been sold to the well-known Otago sportsman Mr F. Tanner, who intends racing him in Christchurch in the near future. When Tolan tries, conclusions with select Canterbury juveniles, in richly endowed races competed for in Christchurch, he will further demonstrate the already established fact that they breed them in Southland as good as anywhere in the country. His deeds will be watched with interest in this part of the Island, and while it is a pity to see such a good one depart, owners of puppies now being educated in these parts will breathe a sigh of relief, as there Is no question that he was outstanding. Two that take the eye now are Blue Streak and Gold Gleam. ■
