MONTHLY MEETING ADDITIONAL HIGHWAYS The monthly meeting of the Southland County Council was held yester- ■ day. There were present: Messrs T. Golden (chairman), J. Dennis, G. W. Whittingham, G. A. Wraytt, L. A. Niederer, F. F. Trapski, W. M. Norman, ! J. McNeill and A. S. McNaught. List of Roads. A list of roads for selection as to their suitability for declaration as additional ; main highways was submitted by Mr G. R. Milward, acting county engineer, who stated that the list had been compiled from those previously asked for, but not granted, with the addition of the Dipton-Balfour road which carried considerable through traffic. “The Highways Board requests an immediate return of these applications, so I would like the council to finalize their selection in order of urgency at to-day’s meeting,” Mr Milward said. The list was as follows:— Oreti Riding—Dipton-Balfour road (Lome-Castlerock highway to, GoreTe Anau highway), 13 miles. Wallacetown Riding.—WallacetownBranxholm road (Invercargill-Riverton highway to Lome-Castlerock highway), 2} miles. Hokonui and Awarua Ridings.—Wai-tane-Mataura road (Charlton township to Winton-Gore highway to Invercar-gill-Dunedin highway), 4 J jniles. Mataura Riding. — Gore-Waikaka road (Charlton township to Willow-bank-Waikaka highway), 5J miles. •Waihopai Riding.—Woodlands South road (Woodlands-Morton Mains highway to Kennington-Waikawa highway), 3J miles. Winton Riding—Hokonui School road (Winton-Gore highway to Taylor Gorge road), 5J miles. Winton Riding.—McKenzie road (Browns-Limehills highway to Hokonui School road), 3| miles. Waikaka Riding—Waipounamu Bridge road (Riversdale-Waikaka to PyramldWaiparu highway), miles. The total mileage was 39J. Traffic Inspector’s Report. The county traffic inspector (Mr P. C. Watson) in his monthly report stated that 1817 miles had been patrolled, of which 506 were in Wallace County. During the month 93 heavy traffic licenses were issued in the Southland County and 34 in the Wallace County. Tenders Accepted. The following tenders were accepted:— Invercargill-Dunedin Main Highway, Moore’s Road to Scenic Reserve Road: Widening, drainage etc.—W. Dooley, £6l 2/-. Mossbum.—Five Rivers Main Highway: Oreti River Stop Bank—J. L. Dickie, £lOO 10/-. Gore-Reaby Road (Croydon Deviation): Cutting filling and culvert.— Joseph Biondell, £96 10/-.
