NIGHTCAPS NOTES

TOWN BOARD MONTHLY MEETING (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Town Board was held in the board room on Monday night. Commissioners W. Excell (chairman), B. Rushton, sen-, *• Boyle, J. Winchester, J. C. Wilson and E. Mason were present. F. W. Tikey applied to the board tor a drainage outfall from his section in Leithan street. —The board approved ot the work being done. T. M. Burgess, secretary for managers of the Presbyterian Church, wrote asking the board to pipe and cover drains which carry the town sewage through the manse grounds. He stated in the application that the ground was required for cultivation and that it was hoped the work would be done at an early date. After views had been expressed by most of the Commissioners present, it was decided on the chairman’s suggestion that the board’s foreman measure up the drain and ascertain cost of piping, after which the board would meet the Church Committee and discuss the matter. Foreman’s Report The foreman’s report of the various works proceeded with during the past month was tabled and adopted by the board. Commissioner Rushton brought up the question of speed limits as controlled by by-laws of the board. The local Police Department had asked for some ruling in the matter. The chairman stated that the by-laws had not been brought up-to-date on this question, but local notices connected with the matter fixed the limit at 15 miles per hour. The Police Department was however able to take action outside the by-laws. The chairman stated that a notice would be placed up warning offenders that action would be taken in future in all cases of cycling on footpaths. An application was made by R. Rollands, through Commissioner Winchester, for some improvement to footpath giving access to his property. The chairman stated that something should certainly be done with this pathway and he suggested that the Works Committee inspect with Mr Rollands to see what can be done. Commissioner Wilson stated that some of the streets were badly in need of maintenance gravel. Pot holes were making themselves felt in many places. ( The chairman stated that the board had a good supply of gravel on hand and the Works Committee would make a general inspection. Maintenance would be made where required and pot holes filled in. Nightcaps Swimming Pool. Work is proceeding apace on the enlargement of the local swimming pool. The pool as it was, was greatly enjoyed by enthusiasts last season, and was the means of teaching a large number of hitherto non-swimmers, the rudiments of the art. Much excavation work is being carried out at present and the incoming season will see a greatly improved area.

It was decided that a donation of £1 1/- be made to the Cancer Research Fund.
