The view that work for matriculation at the majority of secondary schools, instead of being a scientifically arranged four years’ course, was generally a three years’ course of cramming for examination, was expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Classical Society. The society was formed last’ year to provide a fink between the schools and the university. A resolution passed at the meeting favoured a special requirement that a four years’ progressive secondary school course should be the preliminary to the university entrance examination.
