MONTH’S JOURNEY

CATTLE FROM WANAKA.

LONG TREK .TO BURNSIDE.

(Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, June 12,

After spending a month on the road from Wanaka to Bumside, a line of 130 bullocks and some 60 heifers was driven into the saleyards last night in excellent condition. The consignment came from the Cattle Flat station, Lake Wanaka, having left a month ago for last week’s market, but as there was no sale last week on account of the Otago Winter Show the cattle spent an extra seven days on the road. When the cattle arrived last night it was found that they were well bred Shorthorn, Hereford and Hereford-Poll cross. It was a credit to the drover in charge that after a trek of over 200 miles the cattle were in excellent fat and forward condition, and not one animal was footsore. Between eight and 10. miles were covered almost each day and the cattle gathered their feed as they went, while camps were made every night. It is understood that the drover is a youth about 19 years old, from the city, and his experience in the country extends over only a few months. At the sale to-day the cattle commanded a good deal of attention ana sold well. Bullocks realized to £5 17/a head, and heifers to £4 9/-, while fats brought to £ll 7/6 and fat heifers to £7 2/6.
