GERMAN PRODUCTION I AUSTRALIANS SEE FOR THEMSELVES LESS APPREHENSION (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.35 p.m.) London, June 12. Not the least valuable aspect of the wool conference in Berlin was that it enabled Australians to see for themselves the real position of artificial wool, concerning which they are not now so apprehensive as before. One of the experts brought back the latest wood fibres which are decidedly cottonish. German wool magnates themselves are opposed to the widespread adoption of a substitute not only because it means the installation of new machinery, sending idle some of the existing machinery, but because it would harm Germany’s reputation in the manufactured wool re-export market.
It is admitted that there is a field for a new fabric among the poorer Continental States, but it is recognized that it could never compete with the best West of England cloths.
