“To-day we are all asking what is the moral equivalent of war,” said Bishop West-Watson, introducing Dr. Toyohiko Kagawa, the Japanese social worker and reformer, at a luncheon at Christchurch. “We all know that if we all lived in complete peace and comfort we would live flabby lives. We must have conflict to develop the best that is in us. Let any one study the life of Dr Kagawa and he will see in the conflict which he has undertaken the moral equivalent to war.”
