STEWART ISLAND NOTES

The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Monday evening, Mr J. Sloan presided. The reunion dinner which was held on June 3 was discussed .and favourably commented upon. The remainder of the evening was spent in the preliminary arrangements for the organization of the annual carnival to be held on July 12. It was decided to hold an afternoon session for the children on similar lines -to that held last year. Mr W. Traill, Government Surveyor in Auckland district, son of Mr and Mrs A. W. Traill, of Stewart Island, has been spending a week’s holiday at' Ringaringa as guest of his brother, Mr A. W. Traill, jun. Mr W. McCaw and his niece, Miss Todd, of Dumfries, Scotland, spent a few hours on Stewart Island last Wednesday. They returned the same day. Mr and Mrs Fenton, of Dundee, Scotland, paid a flying visit to Stewart Island last Wednesday. Unfortunately time would not permit them to stay over but thejr spent a pleasant two hours between the arrival and departure of the Tamatea.
