MARIST DEBATING CLUB

IMPROMPTU SPEECHES. Impromptu speeches formed the subject of Monday night’s meeting of the Marist Debating Club and many very interesting speeches were heard. Mr A. Chiaroni debated the cigarette v. the pipe. Mr G. Meffin was most interesting on cats and theii “concerts.” Mr L. Hall was in favour of barbarians opposed to civilized man Mr B. Butler Drought that Italy would certainly fight Abyssinia and gave his reasons. Mr N. Menzies spoke on Italy’s dictatorship. Mr R. Wilkins spoke on oysters and toteroas. Mr J. Tuohy detailed thoroughly the effects of death duties, outlining the advantages and disadvantages. The Rev. Brother Remigius made a very long speech on “nothing.”
