NORTH CHINA

IMPROVEMENT IN SITUATION.

JAPANESE DEMANDS MET.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Shanghai, June 10. The northern situation is greatly relieved since it is evident that the Chinese desire for a peaceful solution cannot fail to impress even the extremist Japanese military. The Chinese have agreed to most of the Japanese demands, including the closing of the Peiping political training department, which the Japanese maintained was prejudicial to their interests. Scenes of tremendous activity were witnessed at Peiping as the third gendarme regiment was withdrawn in accordance with the Japanese demands. It seems that only two demands were not fulfilled—the removal of all the Kuomintang offices and all the Central Government troops from Hopei. If these are obeyed it is believed that the threatened ultimatum by the Japanese will not be delivered.
