BIG FOREST FIRE
MILITARY STATION THREATENED. BRITISH OFFICER BURNED TO DEATH. (United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) Simla, June 8. A cigarette end dropped near the Research Institute at Kassauli, an important military hill station, caused a great forest fire threatening to wipe out the cantonments. The troops, reinforced by companies from a neighbouring station, fought the flames for 24 hours, cutting down trees, and narrowly saving the town of Sebathu. , , Captain Lane, of the Cheshire Regiment, was burned to death while fire-fighting. One officer and two men were seriously burned.
