WHIPPET RACING
MEETING AT NIGHTCAPS.

Despite bad weather on the day and training operations being held up by winter conditions in general, good racing was witnessed by a good number of spectators at the meeting held at Nightcaps on Saturday. The course, which is recognized as one of the best in Southland, was in good order. The club’s officials from the president (Mr J. B. Purdue) to secretary (Mr A. Pointon) had arrangements well in hand and the programme of events was run off promptly to time. The following are the detailed results. _ Nursery Handicap; 100yds; 10yds limit: A. Foster’s Queen’s Own 9yds 1; H. Foster’s Dad’s Ruin 9yds 2; E. Boyle’s Peppermint 9yds 3. The only starters. The winner led all the way to win by five lengths. Exhibition Race, 175yds, 17Jyds limit: The only two entrants arriving at the post ran the course and J. Tatham’s Potentate beat Miss R. Butler’s Sail Home rather easily. - The Boyle Cup, 175yds, 17Jyds limit (cup presented by Mrs F. Boyle): First heat: Sneddon and Pointon’s Fullerton lOJyds 1; E. Boyle’s Miss N.Z. 15Jyds 2; J. Tatham’s Potentate 17Jyds 3. Also started: J. Gellatley’s Johnny Walker 11yds, R. Manson’s Silver Light 15Jyds, IL Marsh’s Tom’s Kid 17Jyds. A good race to the judge, all dogs running well. Fullerton went on to win well by a length. Time, llsec. Second heat: J. C. Purdue’s Some Guy 17|yds 1; P. Johnston’s Linton Lad 16|yds 2; R. Manson’s Friendship 17Jyds 3. Also started: J. Tatham’s Madam Min 13Jyds, T. Brewer’s Havaspot 16Jyds. Another good race, Some Guy doing the best in the run home to win by a length. Time, lljsec. Final: Fullerton 1; Some Guy 2; Linton Lad 3. Miss N.Z. beat the gun'and, in a good run, Fullerton beat the other two finalists. Time, llsec. Lightweight Handicap, 175yds; 17Jyds limit: J. C. Purdue’s Some Guy 15yds 1; J. Tatham’s Money Digger 17yds 2. The only starters. Some Guy won rather easily in llsec.
Open Hurdles, 175yds, 221yds limit: Sneddon and Pointon’s Fullerton 214yds 1; T. Brewer’s Havaspot 22iyds 2. Also started: Money Digger 21Jyds. Fullerton completed the double and won like the good dog he is. Royal Handicap: E. Boyle’s Miss NX 1; T. Brewer’s Havaspot 2. Also started: R, Manson’s Friendship, J. Gellatley’s Johnny Walker. A great finish, Miss NX just getting there.
