QUETTA DEATH ROLL
PROBABLY EXCEEDS £40,000. COMFORTS FOR REFUGEES. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, June 7. Official messages state that the range of the Quetta earthquake is estimated as having been 130 miles long and 20 miles broad. The total death roll, including Quetta and the neighbouring villages, is probably in excess of 40,000. The number of destitute refugees is estimated at not fewer than 15,000. Supplies of food and medical comforts at Quetta are now adequate. The evacuation of British and Indian survivors continues with all possible speed. SURVEY NOTYET COMPLETE. The Government states that a survey of the ruined villages is incomplete, but the present estimate is 12,000 to 15,000 killed. The total death roll, including Quetta, will probably be oyer 40,000. In one village there were nine survivors out of a population of 400. Earthquake shocks continue. ROYAL FAMILY’S CONTRIBUTIONS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) London, June 8 The British Government is voting £50,000 for Quetta relief when the House of Commons reassembles. Gifts to the Lord Mayor’s fund include those of the King, £500; Queen, £250; the Prince of Wales, £125; the Duke and Duchess of York and the Duke and Duchess of Kent, £5O each. Dr Earle Page announced that the Federal Government had offered £lO,OOO as a gift to the Government of India for the relief of those who suffered in the Quetta earthquake.
