RIVERTON NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) The residents of Riverton were treated to a musical feast during the week-end when the Invercargill Salvation Army Band, under the conductorship of the Commanding Officer, Adjutant Thorne, arrived on Sunday morning and throughout the course of the day, were heard at several places in the town. The band visited the hospital, . with the permission of the medical director and staff, in the afternoon and played a delightful programme to the inmates of that institution. The staff showed their thanks by providing afternoon tea. The Sunday night’s meeting was followed by an after church sacred concert in Fleck’s Hall. The music was of a very high order and the band acquitted itself well. They were also assisted by several of the local concert artists. On the King’s Birthday the bandsmen visited several of the beauty spots of this place. The final programme was given in the Army Hall at night. Once again the standard of music was high. Marches, selections, quartets, cornet duets and solos, also vocal and elocutionary items were given.
