LICENSING COMMITTEE
AWARUA DISTRICT’.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Awarua Licensing Committee was held at Bluff yesterday when applications for renewal of publicans’ and accommodation licenses were dealt with. On the bench were Messrs W. H. Freeman, SJVI. (chairman), A. McKenzie, R. A. Cruickshank, J. Stewart, F. Moore and E. A. Nichol. Inspector T. Gibson represented the police. No comments were made regarding the conduct of hotels in the district during the past year, though it is understood that the police report was generally favourable. The following applications for the renewal of publicans’ licenses were granted: Hugh J. Murphy (Eagle Hotel,, Bluff); Patrick Ford (Club Hotel, Bluff); J. Ballantyne (Golden Age Hotel, Bluff); Margaret Baird (Wallacetown Hotel); Richard Harris (Wallacetown Junction Hotel). Robert Kirkwood’s application for a renewal of a publican’s license in respect of the Bay View Hotel, Bluff, was granted on his undertaking to carry out the improvements required by the committee, the health inspector stating that work on these improvements had been commenced that morning.
Thomas McGillivray’s application in respect to the Railway Hotel was granted subject to his erecting a boundary fence in accordance with the committee’s requisition. Conditional approval on similar lines was granted Bridget J. McKay for the Winton Hotel.
Michael J. Forde’s application in respect to the Commercial Hotel, Winton, was granted subject to his erecting a gate in accordance with the committee’s requirements. The following renewals of accommodation licenses were granted: S. B. McLean (Benmore Hotel); John R. Todd (Oreti Rest Hotel); James W. West (Celtic Hotel, Browns). The following were granted wholesale licenses: Thomson’s Ltd.! Mackerras and Hazlett; A. B. Moffett and Co.
