PUBLIC ACCOUNTS
DELAY IN PUBLICATION.
(Per United Press Association.)
Wellington, June 7. Representations are to be made to the Government by the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce in favour of adjustments being made which will enable the national accounts to be published earlier than is the case at the present time. At a meeting to-day of the executive, a report was made that some time had been occupied by a sub-committee in making inquiries into the matter. It was pointed out that while the statement of Government revenue and expenditure was available in England very shortly after March 31, in New Zealand the Public Accounts were not published until three months after the close of the financial year. This meant delay in the presentation of the Budget and Parliament was then called on to authorize the expenditure of the 'State which had actually been going on without authority for a quarter of a year, or even longer.
