IMPROVERS IN BREAD
NOT ALLOWED IN NEW ZEALAND.
FARMERS PROTEST.
(Per United Press Association.)
Christchurch, June 7.
A strong protest at the prohibition on the use of improvers in bread, was made at the annual conference of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union to-day. A remit asking the Government to the use of improvers was carried unanimously. It was stated that New Zealanders were being asked to withstand competition from overseas with their hands tied. New Zealand alone was not allowed the use of improvers. The Health Department would give no reason for this ban, and even refused to see a demonstration. Improvers, it was stated, were used in Australia and England as a matter of course.
