N. J. M. Rein and Co., Ltd.

DISPLAY OF NEW JEWELLERY. There is probably nothing which holds such an appeal for women as jewellery, rather because of the unique wonder in the beauty of precious stones than their great value. The high price of gems often prohibits their purchase by those who admire them, but N. J. M. Rein and Company, Limited, Dee street, have recently landed a shipment of jewellery, in diamante and marcasite which, though moderately priced, is brilliant in gems and exquisite in design. Marcasite is a highly polished metal not unlike silver and is suggestive of the antiquity '•so much sought after in modern jewellery. The higher priced pieces are actual reproductions of the real diamond and gem set masterpieces worked by the best craftsmen in England. This type of jewellery has found such favour in England (where it is made) that many of the nobility are having their costly and valuable gem set jewellery reproduced in marcasite and diamante for wearing abroad. Displayed in N. J. M. Rein’s window at present is a wide range of these jewels which can be bought in matching gets or in individual pieces, and although very modem are reminiscent of the. old designs which are again finding favour. They have that intricacy of design which was prominent among the old fashioned jewels, yet there is nothing massive or cumbersome about them; irt fact some of the marcasite filagree bracelets are so fine that they suggest the work of a spider rather than a man. There are chroniumplated bracelets, some solid and some filagree, set with diamante, and others are of marcasite. To match these there are earrings (both stud and long drop), necklets, pendants, dress rings, brooches and scarf pins and all have that unusual fascination which is peculiar to gems of the highest value.—B/6/35.
