Mrs T. M. Rankin, Yarrow street, returns during the week-end from an extended holiday in Roxburgh where she has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs R. E. Bennetts. Mr and Mrs Gordon Charters, Wendonside, who visited town for a few days during the week, returned to the country on Thursday. They were accompanied by Mrs B. W. Hewat, Russell . street, who returns home tomorrow.

Mrs A. G. Seddon, Lewis street, who has been spending an extended holiday in the North Island, arrived in Wellington last Sunday by the Reinuera from Gisborne and concluded her return journey south by the express last Tuesday. ,

On Tuesday afternoon members of the Kew Kindergarten Mothers’ Club met in the School room where a social afternoon was spent. The function took the form of a “recipe” afternoon, recipes being exchanged and samples of each recipe displayed. The St. George Old Students’ Association has now been in existence for nine months and at the present time has a membership of 112. TJie old students hold dances and socials about once a month to which everyone, old pupils or otherwise, is made welcome. The aero and military ball, which has been held anqually in the past, will be carried on this year by the Officers’ Mess, Southland Regiment. Invitations will be out on Monday for this ball, which takes place on Thursday, July 4. The guests of honour will be Sir William Sinclair Burgess, K.8.E., K. 8., C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., A.D.C. to the King, and Officers of the General Headquarters Staff, Wellington. 8-6-35.

On Saturday morning last, the employees of Woolworths Ltd., Invercargill, met in the staff room and Miss McLernon on their behalf, made a presentation to Mrs W. Martin, in appreciation of all she has, done for them. Mrs Martin, in reply, s*aid she was very happy to be associated with such a band of happy girls and thanked them for their gift, which was a pleasant surprise and greatly appreciated. Many people who have been befrended in needy times by Mrs Lily Kingston, of Brixton, London, are lamenting her death at the age of 48. The wife of a contractor, she had lived most of her life in Brixton, where she was often seen driving a smart turnout drawn by her favourite pdny. A handsome woman, with a striking personality, she was well known in Covent Garden Market; She could not bear to see anyone down and out or hungry, and so often did she open her purse that she became known as “Big-hearted Lil.” When her body was borne to Tooting Cemetery, the thoroughfares near her home were lined with people who wished to pay a last respect to a good Samaritan, for such was Mrs Kingston. More than fifty wreaths were sent.

An ex-Braemar House re-union was held at the Somerset Lounge of the Savoy, in Dunedin, on Friday evening, May 31. There were fifty-six present, twenty-three having come from distances.
