GENERAL MEETING OF MEMBERS.

The newly formed New Zealand Grand Opera Society carried its project of establishing grand opera as a permanent institution in New Zealand a step further to-night, when the first general meeting of members was held. The society’s intention is to form branches in other centres, commencing with Dunedin. In Wellington 150 singers have enrolled with the society within the last month. It was announced that the first presentation of the society would be a “triple bill” (subject to permission to perform) comprising the first act of “Faust,” the ballet from “La Gioconda” and Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana.”
