COMBINED RALLY

METHODIST BIBLE CLASSES. The members of the Southland Methodist Young Men’s and Young Women’s Bible Class Unions held a combined rally in Invercargill on June 3. There was an attendance of 140 from all parts of Southland. In the morning at 10.30 a devotional service took place at St. Peter’s Church, when the Rev. Mr Robinson, of Nightcaps, gave an inspiring address entitled “Mountain Tops.” This meeting was followed by a Communion service conducted by the Rev. Mr Malcolm (Otautau) and the Rev. Mr Ashworth (Edendale). In the afternoon at Queen’s Park, the young men held a seven-a-side football tournament. Keen competition was displayed amongst the five teams entered for the challenge shield, the final being won by St. Peter’s. A, with Otautau runners-up. The shield was presented to the winning team at the evening social. In the evening the church parlour, Jed street, was filled to overflowing for the half-hour’s community sing conducted by the Rev. E. B. Chambers (Central). Camp favourites were very popular and brought back rich memories of Eastertide experience. At 7.30 pm., after a short devotional period had been conducted by Mr Chambers, the seniors adjourned to the Sunday School Hall where an enjoyable social evening was held, the M.C. being Mr R. Walker, of Otautau. The junior social held in the church parlour was in charge of the Rev. Wesley Parker (Riverton), with Mr Ralph Wesney (Central) as assistant.
