MATAURA NEWS

CHURCH OF CHRIST YOUTH RALLY. (From Our Correspondent.) A youth rally was held by th 6 Church of Christ at Mataura on the King’s Birthday when about 80 young people assembled. They were representative of the congregations at Invercargill, Gore and Mataura. The morning session conducted in the Mataura Chapel, River street, and preceded by a song service' led by Evangelist E. Light, was a devotional period over which Evangelist V. C. Stafford, of the Invercargill church, presided. An appropriate welcome was accorded the visiting delegates on behalf of the Mataura church by Evangelist R. S. Hoffman, who also expressed the pleasure of the presence of Mr W. R. Hibbert, Dominion youth organizer. Throughout the morning talks were gven by Messrs B. Ladbrook (Gore), . Taylor (Mataura) and Miss A. Blampied (Invercargill), the theme taken being “Enjoying God,” while an address was also given by Mr W. R. Hibburt. / After luncheon a sports and games programme was carried out on the recreation ground. A social was held under the direction of the youth organizer in the evening. Inquiries made at the local post office

indicate that the officials there have had a very strenuous period during the last week, when re-licensing of motor vehicles was undertaken. Up to the end of May registrations were slightly in excess of those recorded at the corresponding date last year, the figures for all classes of motor vehicles being 175, against 169 in 1934. The postmaster advises that since the beginning of the present month further registrations have been coming in freely.
