PLOUGHING MATCHES

DRUMMOND ASSOCIATION.

(From Our Correspondent.)

The annual meeting of the Drummond Ploughing Match Association was held in the public hall at Drummond. Mr D. Jones (president) occupied the chair.

The balance-sheet showed that the association had to draw on its revenue to the extent of £1 3/6- The position, however, was regarded as satisfactory in view of the heavy drain of the past five or six years. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr F. Sutton; vicepresidents, Messrs D. Jones, H. Gerrard and S. Mitchell; treasurer, Mr J. B. Lindsay (re-elected); secretary, Mr D. Brown (re-elected). It was decided to hold the annual fixture on Wednesday, July 3, and all present were appointed to act on the match committee, with power to add to their number. It was resolved that the same programme as last year be adopted, with the exception of the dog trial, and the prize list was increased in the B class to bring the prizes in this class rip to a parity with classes C and D. The following were appointed judges: Ploughing, Messrs W. Young, C. Turnbull and J. King; horses and specials, Messrs R. Ness, R. Lockie and R. Hamilton. Emergencies were appointed in case some of the above were unable to act.

It was decided to ask Mrs Gill to undertake the catering. Messrs S. Mitchell and T. A. Shearer generously donated £5 5/- and a trophy valued at £5 5/- respectively, Mr Shearer’s prize to be for most points, the conditions to be the same as for his previous trophy, which was won outright last year. Mr Mitchell’s prize for the current match was allotted as follows: £1 special to be added to the first prize in each class, and £1 f° r the best team entered, bred by exhibitor. Mr Sutton conveyed the thanks of the association to Messrs Mitchell and Shearer amidst the applause of the members. A football match between Western and Central Sub-Unions for the Baird Cup will also be played on the day of the match.
