A GRADE MATCH.

ST. JOHN’S v. INVERCARGILL No. 2.

The St. John’s and Invercargill No. 2 badminton teams met last evening in the Zealandia Hall, the former team winning after a close and interesting match by seven games . to five. St John’s were superior in the men’s doubles, winning all three matches, but the Invercargill women played up well and almost bridged the gap.. The following are the detailed scores, Invercargill names being mentioned first:— Men’s Doubles.—Reed and Thompson lost to Hobbs and Gill, 16—21, 13—21; Masters and C. Anderson lost to G. D. Anderson and Glennie, 11—21, 20—21; Hamilton and Norris lost to McLean and Cowie, 18 —21, 17—21. Women’s Doubles.—Misses Goodrich and Wilson lost to Misses Turner and Whittaker, 4—15, 7—15; Misses Shand and Rein defeated Misses Sutton and Watson, 15—8, B—ls, 15—9; Misses Croad and Fairburn defeated Misses Thomson and McNatty, 15—11, 9—15, 15—11. Combined Doubles.—Hamilton and Miss Wilson lost to Hobbs and Miss McNatty, B—ls, 7—15; Thompson and Miss Fairburn defeated Gill and Miss Turner, 15—7, 7—15, 15—8; Reed and Miss Croad lost to Glennie and Miss Sutton, 5—15, 10—15; Masters and Miss Shand defeated G. Anderson and Miss Whittaker, 15—6, 15—4; Norris and Miss Goodrich defeated McLean and Miss 'Watson, 15—12, 15—4; C. Anderson and Miss Rein lost to Cowie and Miss Thomas, B—ls, 13—15.
