The Tamatea makes her weekly run to Stewart Island to-day. leaving at 10.15 a.m. and returning in the late afternoon. The Canadian National steamer Canadian Britisher is due to finish loading to-day and sail for New York. Work was continued on the liner Waipawa yesterday and completion is expected tomorrow. Her next port will be New Plymouth. The Karetu is expected to load at Newcastle on the 12th and at Sydney on the 13th of June for Bluff. The vessel is due here on the 20th and sails the same day for Dunedin. .... The Narbada is expected to leave Calcutta on August 3 for Penang, Singapore and Samarang for New Zealand ports including Bluff. She should reach here about September 20 and sail the same day for Newcastle. , „ . The Benholm is to leave New York on June 15 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. and Dunedin, and is to be followed on July 8 by the City of Glasgow, which is to call at the same ports, proceeding afterwards to Sydney.. The tanker Balaklava, which sailed from Singapore on May 29 for Wellington. Lyttelton and Dunedin, Is due at Wellington on June 19. The Turaklna, which left Wellington on April 26 for New York, Halifax, Hook of Holland. London, Avonmouth, Manchester, and Glasgow, arrived at Halifax on May 30. The tanker O. B. Sorensen, which left San Francisco on May 22 for Auckland and Wellington, Is due at Auckland on June 16. She is to arrive at Wellington on June 20-*

The Coptic, which left London on May 15 for Wellington and Auckland, is reported to have arrived at Cristobal. She is due at Wellington on June 18. The Port Napier, which left Hamburg on April 23 for Australia to discharge, and was to have proceeded to New Zealand to load, is not now coming here, but will do her Homeward loading in Australia. The Canadian Cruiser, from Halifax, via Australia, is to proceed to Bluff, where she is due on June 16, afterwards calling at Dunedin. Lyttelton, Wellington, and Napier. She is due at Wellington on June 21. and is to sail finally from Napier on June 23 for New York, Boston, and Montreal, via Panama. Eckford and Co., Ltd.’s steamer Wairau, 143 tons, which arrived at Wellington last Thursday night from Blenheim after having been laid up for several years, is to take the running of the Echo while that vessel is laid up for overhaul and survey. The Wairau will leave Wellington to-day for Blenheim on her first trip. PERSONAL. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Sydney, which left Lyttelton on Friday for London via Cape Horn, took the following passengers:—Mrs R. M. Speight, Mr J. McAra, Mr H. D. Bruce, Miss S. M. B. Sadlier and Mr W. H. A. Wallens. Dr R. S. Stewart is acting as ship’s surgeon. The following are the results of examinations conducted by the Marine Department during May:—Third class engineer (steam), Messrs J. E. The official returns relating to the foreign trade of 1934 show that the entrances with cargo at United Kingdom ports were 73.4 per cent, of the total arrivals, against 71.5 per cent, in 1933, while the clearances with cargo were 65.6, compared with 65.2 per cent, in the previous year. Taking entrances and clearances together, British tonnage with cargo increased by 700.000 tons net. or 1 per cent., while the more important increases in foreign shipping were United States 20 per cent., Finnish 16, Greek 15, Swedish 14 and Norwegian 11. Italian tonnage dropped by 43 per cent., and that of Japan by 17 per cent. The British proportion of the total net tonnage entered and cleared with cargo was 58.9 in 1934 and 59.6 in 1933- Later figures referring to the month of February give the arrivals with cargo as 5,619,000 tons net. which was 112,000 tons, or 2 per cent, greater than in 1934. The clearances, however, at 4,817,000 tons .were 76.000 tons, or 1.6 per cent, less than in the same month of last year. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
