LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE. A DRAGGING~MARKET. FAT VALUES MUCH THE SAME. Yesterday’s sale of stock at the Lomeville yards was the poorest for a long time, buyers showing little inclination to bid for anything but the best quality. The yardings were on the small side, but there appeared to be plenty forward for butchers’ requirements. Values showed little change from those of last week, the fat cattle market easing slightly if anything. Following is a comparative table of yardings for the past two sales: — June 4. May 28. Store cattle 106 112 Fat cattle 118 183 Store sheep 375 445 Fat sheep 500 1028 Included in yesterday’s yarding were 93 fat lambs, 22 dairy cows, 12 vealers and 1 bull. Fat Sheep.—The fat sheep yarding was only a small one and consisted almost entirely of ewes, with little or no change in values. Medium quality wethers realized from 23/- to 25/-, light and unfinished down to 19/-, prime heavy quality young ewes 18/to 19/-, medium quality 12/- to 14/-, with freezing weights down to 10/6. Fat Lambs.—ln the fat lamb section there were only three or four small pens, these realizing market values. Store Sheep.—There was a small yarding. Store wether lambs, in good condition, made from 10/- to 15/-, according to quality, ewe lambs from 10/- to 17/6, a pen of forward-condi-tioned wethers were passed in at 18/3, while full and failing-mouth ewes met with keen competition at prices from 7/3 to 9/6. Fat Cattle.—Although not so large as the previous week, there was again a fair entry. With the exception of two or three pens of good quality sorts, the yarding was comprised mostly of unfinished cattle. The sale was lifeless and a large proportion was passed in, prices offering being lower than vendors’ ideas of value. Fair quality medium weight bullocks made up to £7 10/-, handy weights £6 to £6 15/-, unfinished down to £4 10/-, prime quality heifers up to £5 17/6, handy weights ’£4 5/- to £5, light weights down to £2 15/-, fair quality medium weight cows up to £4 5/-, with aged and unfinished down to £l. Store Cattle—There was a small yarding. The quality was poor and was comprised chiefly of empty cows. There was a poor demand and prices showed no variation on the previous sales. Good empty cows, in fair condition, realized up to £1 6/-, while the bulk of the yarding brought from 10/- to 17/-. A pen, of mixed-sex calves realized £1 3/—, while a pen of two and three-year-old steers in poor condition made £2 5/-. A few dairy cows which were empty, did not meet with a ready sale, and prices varied from £1 to £2 15/-. McNAB STOCK SALE. The fortnightly McNab stock sale was held yesterday and the inclusion of a good entry of light and heavy horses offered some variety for those who attended. The sheep entry was small, while there was a full yarding of cattle. In the sheep section very few fats came under the hammer. Odd lines of young and old breeding ewes made up the store entry and prices ranged from 22/- to 25/3. In the cattle section medium weight steers and heifers were best represented, both classes bringing up to £3. The main feature of the sale was the dispersal of a number of draught horses. Top price was recorded for a well-proportioned 2 J-year-old filly, being sold at 72 guineas. Sales were:—
