LINE BLOCKED
ENGINE JUMPS POINTS. DELAY OF EXPRESS. (Per United Press Association.) Wanganui, June 2. The main railway line at Eastown (Aramoho) was blocked for about five hours on Saturday afternoon, through a shunting engine jumping the points. The mishap occurred half an hour before the New Plymouth express to Wellington was due and the train was held ab the Aramoho station while the passengers walked across the bridge and joined a special train which had, arrived from Palmerston North for the' football match. The special then took up the running as the express was leaving two and a-half hours late. Meanwhile, a temporary track was laid round the engine, but the express from Wellington was delayed for over two hours until a new track could be completed. - ’ When the engine left the track it ploughed through soft earth and broke the valve of a large water main which feeds Aramoho and the workshops, causing a considerable rush of water and adding to the difficulties experienced in getting the engine back on to the track. This was not accomplished till. Sunday morning. The engine and track suffered little damage.
