(From Our Correspondent.)

During the month of February rain fell on nine days. The total rainfall for the month was 2.62 inches compared with 4.74 inches for the corresponding month of last year, and 4.55 inches in February, 1933. The heaviest fall was on the 22nd, when 1.41 inches were registered. On the fourth a heavy thunder shower was experienced, 45 points of rain falling in 25 minutes.

Exceptionally hot weather was experienced in the first part of the month, the temperature being over 90 degrees in the shade on several days. Cooler temperatures prevailed after the 22nd and a light frost made its appearance on the night of the 26th. North-west-erly winds prevailed during the month, reaching gale force on the 21st. As a result of the fine weather prevailing harvesting operations have been in full swing during the month. The crops are light generally and the harvest season will be a short one in consequence. On Wednesday afternoon the members of the Anglican Ladies’ guild and Mothers’ Union held an ‘ afternoon at the residence of Mrs H. Graham to bid farewell to Mrs Knights, who leaves the district at an early date for Invercargill. Competitions were' held and items were given by Mrs R. Robertson (solo), and Mrs Brash (piano). The competitions were won by Mrs Graham and Mrs Ashby. The Rev. E. G. Wilson referred to the interest that Mrs Knights had taken in the Guild and Mothers’ Union. He expressed regret at her approaching departure, and wished her success and happiness in her new home. On behalf of the members he had pleasure in presenting her with an afternoon tea set as a slight token of esteem. Mrs Knights suitably replied.
