21 CONVICTS ESCAPE
EQUIPPED WITH PISTOLS. VISITORS USED AS SHIELD. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) New York, February 18. A message from Granre (Oklahoma) states that 21 long-term convicts effected a daring escape from the State reformatory there while a group of visitors, including women and children, was inspecting the institution. All were equipped with smuggled pistols and, partially using the visitors as a shield, forced the keepers to open the gate. In an exchange of shots one of the keepers was killed and three convicts were wounded and captured. The remainder made their escape in stolen automobiles.
