LAYING TOTALISATOR ODDS. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, February 18. On four charges of laying totalisator odds, John Joseph Lowing was fined £4O. “This is the first time we have heard a suggestion that the path for betting had been greased by going to church,” commented the Magistrate when counsel for Lowing contended that the constable with whom defendant had made bets had ingratiated himself with the defendant while they were on the way to early morning church.
