(Marion Davies, Gary Cooper, Jean Parker, Katherine Alexander, Ted Healy); “The Bhie Squadron” (Esmond Knight.. John Stuart, Greta Hansen, Cecil Parker).

Don’t miss “Treasure Island,” showing for the last time at the Majestic this evening. There is a gifted cast and tile pioQire is a splendid adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic.

Wild west films, so plentiful in the silent days, are regrettably few now. and the management of the Majestic is to be congratulated on bringing a Zane Grey story to the Invercargill screen. This is “Wild Horse Mesa,’’ commencing to-morrow. It deals with the great wild horse herd of the West, descendants of blooded animals that had escaped from early Spanish explorers. Chane Weymer, a friend of the Indians on whose territory the last of the great herd sought refuge, deals in these horses legitimately, and he fights the barbarous methods of Rawlins and other horse thieves. Randolph Scott, in the role of Chane, has won much praise. Sally Blane is the heroine.

It would seem that “Hollywood Party,” coming to the Majestic on Saturday, is a distinctive film. The picture, a multi-star extravaganza, brings to the screen a logical dramatic story, into which is woven all the novelties of a musical show. Even Mickey Mouse, I am told, appears, acting this time with human actors. The cast includes Laurel and Hardy, Jimmy Durante, Charles Butterworth, Polly Moran and Lupe Velez.

“Operator 13,” coming to the Majestic soon, is an exciting picture, based on a story of love and intrigue, written by Robert W. Chambers. Marion Davies appears as a lovely spy who is sent to seek and slay her enemy’s most valuable scout and spy (Gary Cooper).

Mae West’s next picture will be “Now I’m a Lady.”

THE REGENT

Now Showing: “Romance in the Rain , (Roger Pryor,-Heather. Angel. Esther Ralston, Victor Moore, Ruth Donnelly). Commencing To-morrow: "Double Door" (Mary Morris. Kent Taylor, Sir Guy Standing. Evelyn Venable, Colin Tapley).. Commencing Saturday: Beaumont Smith’s "Splendid Fellows”—The Hayseeds at the Centenary (Eric Colman, Isabelle Mahon, Frank Leighton, Leo Franklin, Frank Bradley). - Coming Attractions: "Madame Du Barry” (Dolores Del Rio, Reginald Owen, Veree Teasdale, Victor Jory); ’“Wake Up and Dream” (Russ Colombo, Roger Pryor, June Knight); "Registered Nurse” (Bebe Daniels, Lyle Talbot, John Halliday, Irene Franklin);'.“The Last Gentleman” (George Arliss): “She Loves Me Not” (Bing Crosby, Miriam Hopkins. Kitty Carlisle); “Death Takes a Holiday” (Frederic March, Evelyn Venables, Sir Guy Standing). * * * * “Romance in the Rain,” a topical and tuneful comedy, is now at the Regent. Bright and breezy, it deals with a modem Cinderella who wins a contest and loses her heart to the man who gave her the opportunity, but was blind to her charm. Roger Pryor and Heather Angel have the leading roles. * • * * “Double Door,” coming to the Regent to-morrow, will be specially interesting to New Zealanders, for Colin Tapley, who, it will be remembered, was one of the successful contestants in Paramount’s “Search For Beauty,” is seen on the screen for the second time- in this film, taking the part of the family doctor. Mary Morris plays the role of Victoria Van Brett, tyrannical spinster who rules the fates and fortunes of the fabulously wealthy Van Brett family in their gloomy old Fifth Avenue mansion. The splendid cast includes Evelyn Venable, Sir Guy Standing and Anne Revere. “Splendid Fellows,” coming to the Regent on Saturday, has been called the best Australian picture to date. A fast moving film with an entertaining story, it skilfully introduces local colour. The flying parson and the flying doctor, both so well-known in the great spaces of Australia, are 'introduced in tills film; and crowning it are actual scenes from the Melbourne Centenary Air Race.

Katharine Hepburn makes her singing debut in “The Little Minister.”

Leslie Howard has been in England making “The Scarlet Pimpernel”, and enjoying the companionship of his two children. ? .
