FIRE STOCKS PURCHASED

SUCCESSFUL LOCAL TENDER. The fire which occurred in Messrs Ross and Glendining’s Invercargill warehouse recently was responsible for considerable general drapery and boot and shoe stocks being slightly damaged by smoke and water. Recently tenders were called for the purchase of these stocks and Messrs H. & J. Smith, Ltd., have been advised that they are one of the successful tenderers for boots and shoes, mercery, general drapery, and the woollen mill goods. _ Almost every department will share in these fire sale bargains, and as the transaction is one of the largest recorded locally for some time, there will be some unprecedented bargains at the Departmental Stores shortly.
